About LASCompression

Thank you for your interest in LASCompression.

LAS Compression is lossless compression algorithm for LIDAR datasets. Currently available version supports compression of LAS file format version 1.0/1.1/1.2.

Efficiency:
LAS Compression is capable of reducing the size of LAS files to only 10% - 20% percents of their original size.

History:
LAS Compression algorithm was developed as a part of scientific study of point geometry in point-clouds at Faculty of electrical engineering & Computer science, University of Maribor, Slovenia. Although, other algorithms for LIDAR data processing are under the development also, LAS Compression was presented first, because of the demand driven from the industry.

Feature goals:
Our aim is to upgrade the algorithm for later version of LAS file format and increase the time efficiency with parallel processing.

Related Work

We also developed:

- LiDAR LiVE: an efficient real-time visualization of LIDAR data, where high FPS ratio (over 30 FPS) is achieved in all the cases without noticeable reduction of details.
